Bear is a sweet, gentle dog who has already suffered more than any animal ever should. He was neglected, starved, possibly abused, and then heartlessly dumped on the street. Now he has ended up at a kill shelter with less than 24 hours to live.
As if that isn’t devastating enough, Bear has been diagnosed with leptospirosis – a deadly but treatable disease. Without immediate medical intervention, he will not survive. He must be transported to an emergency hospital right away, and his treatment is expected to cost thousands of dollars.

We pulled Bear just hours before his scheduled euthanasia, knowing we had to give him every possible chance. He was rushed to the emergency hospital with suspected leptospirosis, so weak that he couldn’t even stand on his own. After a long night under intensive care, Bear has already undergone a plasma transfusion, had a feeding tube placed through his nose to ensure he receives the nutrition he desperately needs, and required a urinary catheter so he can safely eliminate waste as his body fights this severe infection.
It quickly became clear that his condition is more critical than we first thought, and he now needs to be transferred to a specialized emergency hospital for advanced treatment and continued round-the-clock care.
